Facebook’s Next Logical Step
Jason Statham (Los Angeles, CA) poked Elle C (Harvard). 4:30pm
Elle C (Harvard) totally liked it and reciprocated. 4:35pm
Elle C (Harvard) and NS (Harvard) ended their relationship. 4:46pm
Elle C (Harvard) and Jason Statham (Los Angeles, CA) had mad sex. 4:56pm
A girl can dream. Well, actually. I have dreamt about the preceding scenario. But that’s not the point.
The new Facebook freaks me out. Amid rampant privacy concerns, Zuckerberg decided to make it even easier than ever to keep track of people? He might as well send out email alerts every time someone farts.
I don’t understand how anyone but the most voyeuristic of individuals could appreciate the new Facebook. As if this website hasn’t already destroyed social interaction as we know it. Do I really want to find out via a news feed that one of my girlfriends is an emotional mess because her relationship just ended? What do I care about the post SS made to CK’s wall? Is JX’s decision to join the Chicago network really a noteworthy event? And most importantly, how can I get away with stalking the rugby team if Big Brother’s watching?
If Facebook keeps this up, it won’t be long until you see something like this:
Elle C (Harvard) is no longer interested in men. 8:12am

1. You write a public blog about your sex life and you’re accusing Facebook of promoting “voyeurism?”
2. Facebook already allowed you to find out lots of people’s (willingly given) personal information. Now it allows you to do that more effectively. This is more a change of degree, not of nature! Searches by updated profile were this but harder to use.

1. I write this willingly. Not a lot of people would be willing to do the same.
2. That’s true, but in terms of “degree,” I do think a news feed is taking it too far.

What a disappointing revelation … not that Kay and I haven’t been aware of that fact for quite a while.
Alright, boys in speedos it is :)
