Slow Dancing in a Burning Room

Me: Are you still with your girlfriend by the way?
Kyle: Kind of. She moved. Things are holding on by a thread that’s about as thin as my one remaining moral fiber.
Me: Wow. That’s one fucking thin thread.
Kyle: Thanks.

I’ve been in those shoes before and I can’t empathize enough. I told him that the situation reminded me of my favorite song off John Mayer’s third album “Continuum” (which, on the whole, is amazing):

It’s not a silly little moment
It’s not the storm before the calm
This is the deep and dyin breath of
this love we’ve been workin on
Can’t seem to hold you like I want to
so I can feel you in my arms
Nobody’s gonna come and save you
we pulled too many false alarms

We’re goin down and you can see it too
We’re goin down and you know that we’re doomed
my dear, we’re slow dancing in a burnin room

I was the one you always dreamed of
you were the one i tried to draw
how dare you say it’s nothin to me
baby, you’re the only light I ever saw

I make the most of all the sadness
you’ll be a bitch because you can
you try to hit me just to hurt me
so you leave me feelin dirty cuz you can’t understand

We’re goin down and you can see it too
We’re goin down and you know that we’re doomed
my dear, we’re slow dancing in a burnin room

Oh God… I listened to this song on repeat when it first came out. I love the image of it all. Its too bad John Mayer is such a douche.

I agree that John Mayer is a douche, absolutely.

Now I don’t know why you don’t like him, but every freakin’ song of his is just so self-serving. It’s as if any morally decent singer who’s made it big is a tragic hero who is the sole voice of reason and the only one who understands the world. And all the teenage girls and guys listen to his music, and think they know everything about love, and screw the people around them by endorsing his lyrics and creating false drama. It makes me upset that they don’t see it.

Well, you can bash me if you want to, I can back my argument.
