…. is none at all until I get in touch with my resident dean, HUPD, and a lawyer. I do want to stress that IvyGate handled this very, very decently. Obviously, I’d much prefer for this to stay on the down low, but if they didn’t report it, someone else would’ve. Where there’s a will, there’s a way and hell hath no fury like a psycho ex spurned.
In any case, I assure you that I’m doing alright though times have certainly been merrier. If you really want to make me feel better, read and react to my previous entry on ways to give back this holiday season (and year-round). A lot of my friends have been asking me how I’ve been able to stay so calm despite the circumstances (have yet to cry or yell or even stamp my feet). It’s quite simple: a dramafest of a life or not, I still live a very privileged existence as a student at a well-respected university that is practically guaranteeing me financial independence. I have food, clothes, and shelter as well as plenty of rights as a citizen in the richest country in the world (even if the President is kind of a bozo). My friends and family are for the most part healthy and happy. In comparison to what kind of life I could be leading in some developing nation or non-democratic state, things are pretty peachy. (Not that I won’t be freaking out belatedly in the next week, since that could very well be the case. If I do that, don’t be disappointed in my crumbling composure. I don’t think anyone could blame me.)
Anyway, my point is that if I can keep sane in light of recent events, then all you grinches need to buck up and get jolly. Before I left Cambridge, my blockmates and I declared that over the break, we all have to tell someone we loved them “just because it’s Christmas” (this was after an especially sappy viewing of Love Actually). I suggest that everyone go out and do that immediately and report back in the comments or via email. THAT would make me feel a ton better. You don’t even have to be a Christian. As I told my close friends in an email sent out earlier tonight, have a happy non-denominational holiday.
